About the role#
The Community Garden Coordinator manages the people and projects of the Grantham Community Garden. This role runs for the full calendar year and requires participation in the summer garden team. You will support sustainability efforts across campus through student leadership.
What you'll do#
- Plan the growing season, including seed orders, planting schedules, and germination.
- Recruit, track, and manage garden volunteers.
- Perform farm tasks like planting, weeding, watering, and pest management.
- Run market farm stands and track garden income and expenses.
- Collect production data and create reports on garden outcomes.
- Care for campus chickens and assist with the apiary when needed.
- Communicate garden updates via email and manage content for the sustainability website and social media.
- Attend team meetings and garden events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Messiah University student.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Canva.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead and influence peers.
- Interest in implementing sustainability solutions on campus.
- Familiarity or volunteer experience with the Office of Sustainability or the Grantham Community Garden is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Pay: $8.00 per hour.
- Availability: Must be available for most of Spring 2026, all of Summer 2026, and most of Fall 2026.
- Requirements: A valid driver's license is required, and you must be able to become an approved driver for the university. Expect to wear farm clothes and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work.
