About the role#
The Theatre Department is hiring a Student Assistant to help with the technical production season. You will work in workshops and performance spaces, assisting with construction and equipment maintenance. This is a part-time position capped at 10 hours per week, paying $8.00 per hour. Please note that you will work in areas where you may encounter loud noises, dust, and wood particulates. Safety equipment is provided.
What you'll do#
- Build and implement technical designs for department productions.
- Keep workshops, performance spaces, and storage areas clean and safe.
- Perform general maintenance on shop and technical equipment.
- Complete all required safety training.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
What you'll need#
- A general interest in the arts and technical theatre.
- A positive attitude and the ability to take direction.
- Willingness to work with power tools and electric sewing machines.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs and work in a team setting.
- Initiative, self-motivation, and common sense.
- Flexibility to learn and adapt on your feet.
- If you are a licensed driver, you must be willing to become certified to drive campus vehicles and pass the 15-passenger van test.
- Completion of Intro to Tech Theatre (THEA150), working knowledge of power tools, and basic sewing skills are preferred but not required.
Location & details#
- Location: Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Availability for at least 60-minute blocks during shop hours (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 1:00pm to 5:00pm) is preferred.
- Dress Code: You must wear closed-toe shoes and clothing suitable for an environment with sawdust and paint.
