    About the role#

    The Macy's 8-week Summer Internship Program in Buying provides exposure to consumer products, business strategies, and retail trends. You will join a team responsible for merchandise assortment across stores and e-commerce, focusing on sales, margin, inventory productivity, and business growth. This program offers hands-on experience and exposure to senior leadership.

    What you'll do#

    • Participate in professional development through hands-on learning and collaborative projects.
    • Build relationships with other interns, business leaders, and team colleagues.
    • Attend weekly business meetings to review and recap sales performance.
    • Analyze business metrics and make recommendations based on trends.
    • Collaborate with your team to develop assortment strategies for key items and fashion.
    • Conduct competitive shopping to analyze pricing and market trends.
    • Assist in creating purchase orders and track in-season receipts.
    • Resolve shipping issues with vendors.
    • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

    What you'll need#

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Junior standing (rising senior) pursuing a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record.
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred; all majors are considered.
    • Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint.
    • Strong retail math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to analyze sales, gross margin, inventory productivity, and sell-through metrics.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, storytelling, presentation, and influencing skills.
    • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents, reports, and procedure manuals.
    • Basic understanding of financial performance metrics, profitability concepts, and assortment planning.
    • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and relationship management skills.
    • Ability to independently organize, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
    • Ability to lift or move up to 10 lbs and perform tasks such as reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
