    About the role#

    MACOM is looking for an Engineering Intern to support the development and testing of photodetector technologies. You will work in a cleanroom environment to assist with wafer fabrication and device characterization for optical communications and sensing applications. This role involves direct collaboration with process and device engineers to analyze data and improve manufacturing yields.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with wafer processing tasks including photolithography, thin-film deposition, etching, surface cleaning, and metrology.
    • Support the cleanroom fabrication of photodiodes and optoelectronic devices.
    • Perform electrical testing such as I-V measurements, dark current analysis, breakdown voltage testing, and resistance or capacitance measurements.
    • Conduct optical tests including responsivity measurements, optical power calibration, and wavelength-dependent performance checks.
    • Operate laboratory equipment like probe stations, parameter analyzers, power meters, and oscilloscopes.
    • Analyze experimental data using Excel, Python, or MATLAB.
    • Document your work in engineering reports and laboratory notebooks.
    • Work with the engineering team to identify opportunities for performance and reliability improvements.
    • Follow all safety, ESD, and cleanroom protocols.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Optics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Semiconductor Engineering.
    • Completed coursework in semiconductor devices, electronics, materials science, physics, or photonics.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret experimental data.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Prior experience in semiconductor fabrication or cleanroom environments is preferred.
    • Familiarity with photodetectors, photodiodes, or optoelectronic devices.
    • Knowledge of semiconductor process technologies and wafer fabrication fundamentals.
    • Experience with data analysis tools like Python, MATLAB, JMP, or Minitab.
    • Exposure to test automation and instrument control.

    • Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan.
    • This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship.
    • This position does not offer sponsorship.
