About the role#
The MMIC Yield Improvement intern will join our Integration Engineering team in Durham. This role offers hands-on experience with semiconductor manufacturing and process engineering. You will work on a specific engineering project with clear objectives and measurable goals. Throughout the program, you will collaborate with experienced engineers and technical mentors to contribute to active projects.
What you'll do#
- Analyze manufacturing, yield, and process data to find opportunities for defect reduction.
- Use Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems and defect classification tools to characterize process-induced defects.
- Investigate defect trends and perform root cause analysis using statistical and engineering methods.
- Develop and run experiments to test process improvements and verify corrective actions.
- Create reports, dashboards, and technical presentations to share your findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with teams across Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Yield Enhancement, Quality, and Product Engineering.
- Drive an individual improvement project and present your results to engineering leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes and device fundamentals.
- Experience with lab, test, or process equipment gained through coursework, research, or prior internships.
- Familiarity with data analysis, statistical methods, and problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to manage project tasks and meet milestones.
- Preferred experience includes coursework in semiconductor fabrication, microelectronics, or materials characterization.
- Familiarity with tools such as JMP, Minitab, Python, MATLAB, R, or Excel is helpful.
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), or Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
