About the role#
MACOM is seeking a Fab Equipment Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. Based at our wafer fabrication facility in Durham, North Carolina, this role focuses on a core engineering challenge: developing a strategy to collect and analyze operational data from legacy semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will work alongside equipment engineers, technicians, and automation teams to improve equipment visibility and factory performance.
What you'll do#
- Assist equipment engineers with monitoring reliability metrics, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations.
- Support preventive maintenance, equipment installation, and qualification activities.
- Investigate data sources from legacy equipment and develop methods to organize this information.
- Create databases, dashboards, and reporting tools to summarize equipment utilization.
- Analyze data trends to support factory digitalization initiatives.
- Present project updates and findings to engineering leadership.
- Maintain engineering documentation and procedure updates.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Computer Engineering, or Computer/Data Science.
- Must be returning to school after the internship concludes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Preferred: Experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Preferred: Coursework or experience in AI, machine learning, controls systems, automation, or database development.
- Preferred: Previous laboratory, research, or technical project experience.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship located in Durham, NC.
- You must be able to work in a cleanroom environment, wear required personal protective equipment, and lift up to 50 pounds.
