About the role#
Lumentum is hiring a Reliability Engineer for an 8-month co-op term. This role is based on-site in Ottawa, Ontario. You will work on testing and qualifying optical switching products and their sub-components.
What you'll do#
- Perform qualification and regulatory compliance testing for next-generation optical switching products.
- Test electrical and optical sub-components.
- Collect and analyze test, vendor, and field data, then compare results against vendor submissions.
- Analyze and characterize product failures.
- Calculate reliability statistics including FIT and MTBF.
- Prepare reports on testing outcomes.
- Learn testing methodologies for electro-optical products and understand failure modes.
What you'll need#
- Current 3rd or 4th year student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- Must be registered full-time or part-time at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Understanding of optical systems, optical instruments, and electrical/optical measurements.
- Knowledge of statistics.
- Experience with databases, processing large datasets, and summarizing data using AI tools.
- Ability to interpret data to provide meaningful conclusions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Experience with Python, Visual Basic, or other scripting languages is an asset.

- Compensation: $24 to $35 per hour.
