    About the role#

    Lumentum is hiring a Reliability Engineer for an 8-month co-op term. This role is based on-site in Ottawa, Ontario. You will work on testing and qualifying optical switching products and their sub-components.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform qualification and regulatory compliance testing for next-generation optical switching products.
    • Test electrical and optical sub-components.
    • Collect and analyze test, vendor, and field data, then compare results against vendor submissions.
    • Analyze and characterize product failures.
    • Calculate reliability statistics including FIT and MTBF.
    • Prepare reports on testing outcomes.
    • Learn testing methodologies for electro-optical products and understand failure modes.

    What you'll need#

    • Current 3rd or 4th year student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
    • Must be registered full-time or part-time at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
    • Understanding of optical systems, optical instruments, and electrical/optical measurements.
    • Knowledge of statistics.
    • Experience with databases, processing large datasets, and summarizing data using AI tools.
    • Ability to interpret data to provide meaningful conclusions.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
    • Experience with Python, Visual Basic, or other scripting languages is an asset.

    • Location: Ottawa, Ontario (On-site).
    • Term: 8 months.
    • Compensation: $24 to $35 per hour.
    • Employment type: Full-time student co-op.
