About the role#
As a Mechanical Technician Intern, you will support the Mechanical Maintenance and Operations team in a mission-critical facility. You will work alongside experienced technicians to maintain facility systems, gain practical knowledge of industrial equipment, and contribute to daily operations. This role is designed for students or recent graduates to build core mechanical competencies through hands-on work and mentorship.
What you'll do#
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment and utility systems.
- Assist with daily rounds and readings to monitor system performance.
- Learn and apply techniques for alignment, torqueing, and mechanical assembly.
- Support lubrication, oil sampling, filter replacement, and seal inspections.
- Help maintain HVAC systems, including air handler filters, belts, and fan checks.
- Monitor chilled water, compressed air, and process cooling water systems.
- Assist in equipment startup, shutdown, overhauls, and rebuilds.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment schematics.
- Document work activities and maintenance notes within the CMMS.
- Manage spare parts inventory and tools.
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and training sessions.
- Follow all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements.
What you'll need#
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn advanced techniques.
- Familiarity with HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, pumps, valves, and process utility systems.
- Basic understanding of CMMS tools like Maximo.
- Knowledge of safety procedures such as LOTO, confined space entry, and chemical handling.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively in a team environment.
- 1-3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, facilities operations, or utility systems is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a technical certificate/associate’s degree in Mechanical, HVAC, or Industrial Maintenance is preferred.
