About the role#
We are looking for a Waste/UPW O&M Technician Intern to support the operation and maintenance of critical water and wastewater systems. You will work in a semiconductor or mission-critical facility alongside experienced technicians and engineers. This role offers hands-on experience with advanced UPW generation, distribution, and wastewater treatment systems.
What you'll do#
- Support daily operations of UPW generation and distribution systems.
- Assist in operating and monitoring wastewater treatment systems.
- Perform routine rounds and record key parameters like conductivity, resistivity, TOC, pH, flow rates, pressures, and tank levels.
- Escalate abnormal conditions to the team.
- Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, filters, and chemical delivery systems.
- Support water quality monitoring and sampling activities.
- Help with chemical handling and dosing operations while following safety procedures.
- Support system flushing, regeneration, and sanitization of UPW systems.
- Assist in troubleshooting system issues like flow restrictions or pump failures.
- Learn and apply safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO), hazardous chemical handling, and confined space entry.
- Support startup and shutdown activities for UPW and wastewater systems.
- Maintain accurate CMMS documentation, including work orders and maintenance logs.
- Observe and support vendor activities like membrane cleaning and media replacement.
- Participate in EHS programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop an understanding of semiconductor water quality standards.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent completion of a technical program in a mechanical, environmental, or related field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong interest in hands-on technical work and a mechanical inclination.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems like pumps, piping, and valves.
- Exposure to semiconductor, data center, pharmaceutical, or other mission-critical environments.
- Basic knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems like Maximo is a plus.
