About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance and operations within a mission-critical facility. You will work alongside senior technicians to learn the fundamentals of facility systems and industrial maintenance. This is a full-time, paid position that offers exposure to equipment overhauls, system monitoring, and technical documentation.
What you'll do#
- Support the maintenance and operations team in daily facility tasks.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment and utility systems.
- Conduct daily rounds, readings, and visual inspections for equipment health.
- Learn and apply techniques for alignment, torqueing, and mechanical assembly.
- Assist with lubrication, oil sampling, filter replacement, and seal inspections.
- Help maintain HVAC systems, pumps, valves, and piping.
- Participate in equipment startup, shutdown, and overhaul procedures.
- Monitor chilled water, compressed air, and process cooling water systems.
- Document work activities and maintenance notes in the CMMS.
- Assist with spare parts inventory and tool management.
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and training sessions.
- Support system performance verification and equipment testing.
- Observe senior technicians during troubleshooting and root cause investigations.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Technical Certificate, associate’s degree, or training in Mechanical, HVAC, or Industrial Maintenance.
- Preferred: 1-3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, facilities operations, or utility systems.
- Familiarity with HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, pumps, valves, and process utility systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of CMMS tools like Maximo.
- Knowledge of safety procedures including LOTO, confined space entry, and chemical handling.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team.
