About the role#
Live Oak Bank is seeking an intern for the Architecture and Engineering team. This 10-week summer program is an on-site opportunity based at our headquarters in Wilmington, North Carolina. You will work alongside engineers and architects to bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions. This role involves integrating new vendors and AI tools into the systems that support our banking operations.
What you'll do#
- Sit in on meetings with business teams to identify technology needs and translate them into technical approaches.
- Build proofs of concept using AI coding tools to accelerate development.
- Read and work within existing codebases.
- Write and test integrations between internal systems and third-party vendor platforms.
- Document designs for future reference.
- Present your finished work to engineers and stakeholders.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, including BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore, junior, or senior in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with coding tools like VS Code and version control platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.
- Working proficiency in at least one programming language, including Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#.
- Ability to read and understand code written by others.
- Familiarity with APIs, REST, and JSON.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Curiosity and comfort working with ambiguity.
- Experience with AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor.
- Experience building and deploying a working application.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Coursework or projects related to system design, software architecture, or technical diagramming.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or automated testing.
- Interest in financial services or working in a regulated industry.
- A prior internship, hackathon project, or open-source contribution.

- Location: Wilmington, NC (On-site).
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 17 to July 23, 2027).
- This is a paid, part-time internship.
