About the role#
The Firmware Engineering Intern will support the development, testing, and maintenance of embedded software and IoT solutions. You will work alongside experienced engineers to design, implement, and validate firmware for connected devices. This role offers hands-on experience with hardware integration, communication protocols, and the product development lifecycle.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, development, and implementation of firmware and embedded software for IoT devices.
- Support testing, debugging, and validation activities to ensure product performance.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, and quality engineering teams.
- Participate in integrating hardware and software components within embedded systems.
- Document code, development processes, and technical solutions.
- Evaluate existing products and contribute to firmware enhancements and maintenance.
- Analyze issues and identify root causes during troubleshooting.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team meetings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for development processes and testing methods.
- Present project results and recommendations to engineering leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Sophomore, junior, or senior standing is preferred.
- Basic understanding of embedded systems and firmware development concepts.
- Experience with or coursework involving C or C++ programming.
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, hardware interfaces, or electronics.
- Exposure to software development tools such as Git or Visual Studio Code.
- Interest in IoT devices, connected technologies, and embedded product development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and eagerness to learn new technologies.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The position is based on-site at our global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.
- We do not offer visa sponsorship for this position.
