About the role#
kW Engineering is seeking an IT Intern to assist with maintaining desktop hardware, software, operating systems, and general IT support. This role provides hands-on experience in a professional engineering environment, supporting day-to-day IT responsibilities including hardware setup, user support, onboarding, and inventory management.
What you'll do#
- Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, printer, and connectivity issues.
- Support the setup and configuration of desktop computers, laptops, monitors, and mobile devices.
- Assist with software installations, updates, and workstation configurations.
- Manage the onboarding of new hires by preparing laptops, user accounts, and IT equipment.
- Assist with offboarding employees by collecting equipment and managing account access.
- Maintain inventory records for software, hardware, and IT equipment.
- Organize and maintain server rooms, including labeling, cable management, and documenting equipment locations.
- Support IT documentation, asset records, and internal procedures.
- Monitor cybersecurity training participation and phishing awareness activities.
- Assist with general IT ticket management and user support requests.
- Help automate onboarding, offboarding, and audit checklists for ISO 27001.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and troubleshooting concepts.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 and Windows environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to learn quickly, follow instructions, and manage multiple tasks.
- Willingness to perform hands-on technical and organizational tasks, such as equipment setup and server room maintenance.
- Experience with ticketing systems, networking concepts, or Microsoft administration tools is a plus.
