    About the role#

    KIPP Public Schools Northern California is seeking a graduate student for a Mental Health Internship for the Fall 2026 term. As an integral member of the school mental health team, you will work under the supervision of an Associate Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker to assess barriers to student success and provide essential support services. This is an unpaid, part-time position requiring 2-3 days per week, following a school-based calendar.

    What you'll do#

    • Consult with teachers to develop classroom methods that facilitate learning and address social-emotional or behavioral challenges.
    • Provide weekly individual, group, and family counseling based on team recommendations.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams to design daily programming and interventions tailored to students' educational and mental health needs.
    • Create and implement therapeutic interventions to foster positive learning environments.
    • Conduct crisis intervention, student assessments, and triage as required.
    • Consult with families to assist in understanding the learning and adjustment processes of children.
    • Participate in clinical supervision and professional development meetings.

    What you'll need#

    • A Bachelor’s degree.
    • Current enrollment in a practicum course at an accredited MA, MS, or MSW program.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Commitment to adhering to professional ethical standards, codes, and legal regulations governing school mental health programs.
    • Proficiency in English-Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin is desired.

    • This position is on-site at school locations in San Jose, East Palo Alto, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, Stockton, Redwood City, and Oakland, California.
    • This is an unpaid internship.
