About the role#
Kiewit Industrial and Water Engineering is hiring a Structural Engineer Intern for our Lenexa, Kansas office for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid internship. You will support our design engineering team by applying technical standards to project work and assisting with design documentation.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply departmental design standards, engineering codes, and company policies.
- Contribute to the quality plan requirements and project objectives.
- Prepare basic engineering calculations using standard methods.
- Create design sketches for incorporation into final plans.
- Analyze data to calculate cost and quantity estimates.
- Assist in checking calculations, drawings, and project documents.
- Review vendor drawings for structural construction commodities.
- Coordinate design issues by communicating with other engineering disciplines.
- Monitor construction site progress to ensure work meets drawings and specifications.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering, or Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited institution.
- A GPA above 3.0 is preferred.
- Completed coursework in Fundamentals of Structural Analysis, Strength of Materials, and Fundamentals of Steel or Concrete Design.
- Proficiency with word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
- Familiarity with basic structural analysis software, engineering software, and CADD tools.
- Knowledge of SAP2000, RISA 3D, MathCad, Revit, or Navisworks is highly desirable.
- Ability to work productively, follow instructions, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills for interacting in a team environment.
- Commitment to working safely and maintaining regular attendance during normal business hours, with the ability to work overtime if required.
