About the role#
Kiewit is hiring Civil Engineering students for a Summer 2027 internship within our Power Engineering division. You will join a team of design professionals supporting transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV. This role focuses on applying engineering principles to both detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct projects.
What you'll do#
- Create project design documents and drawings, including transmission line criteria for PLS-CADD and bills of materials.
- Build, modify, and analyze transmission line, pole, and tower models using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS TOWER software.
- Apply field mark-ups to as-built drawings with minimal supervision.
- Develop construction assembly drawings, material specifications, and structure loading packages for vendor submittals.
- Coordinate project activities with engineers, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain project schedules and utilize the internal document management system.
- Identify potential project issues and suggest solutions to the project team.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- A 3.0 cumulative GPA is preferred.
- Basic understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, per-unit mathematics, and symmetrical components.
- Familiarity with engineering standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Proficiency with standard word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate professionally with co-workers and clients.
- Commitment to safety, reliable attendance, and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

- Location: Houston, Texas.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: This is an on-site, full-time position.
- Requirements: You must be able to work during normal operating hours, with potential for overtime or weekend work as needed.
