About the role#
Kernal Biologics is seeking a Co-op to join our LNP team in Boston. You will work on next-generation mRNA-LNP therapeutics by supporting production, analytical testing, and process development. This position provides hands-on experience in manufacturing functions while working alongside scientists and engineers. You will also help manage technical documentation such as protocols and batch records.
What you'll do#
- Support routine mRNA and LNP production, purification, and analytical testing.
- Assist with LNP formulation, optimization, and scale-up.
- Contribute to antibody-LNP conjugation and characterization workflows.
- Develop analytical methods for mRNA-LNP products.
- Maintain human and murine cell lines using sterile technique, including passaging, cell counting, and cryopreservation.
- Transfect IVT and LNP-formulated mRNAs into mammalian cells and quantify expression via flow cytometry.
- Draft and review SOPs, protocols, and batch records.
- Maintain precise and organized laboratory records.
- Collaborate across teams to share data and execute processes.
What you'll need#
- Current B.S. or M.S. student in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Analytical Chemistry.
- Familiarity with mRNA/LNP unit operations like in vitro transcription, chromatography, and filtration.
- Hands-on mammalian cell culture experience at the bench, including transfection and viability assays.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, or gel electrophoresis.
- Experience with flow cytometry is a plus.
- At least 6 months of previous laboratory experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work full-time (35-40 hours per week) on site for at least 6 months.
- Reliability and attention to detail.
