About the role#
The TDS Proteins Development Cell Engineering, Analytics & Screening organization is looking for a co-op to support research focused on improving biotherapeutic protein expression and cell culture performance. You will investigate cellular stress and secretory pathways in CHO cell systems to identify bottlenecks and support the evaluation of novel targets for protein production, folding, and secretion. This role offers hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, and experimental design within a multidisciplinary team.
What you'll do#
- Investigate stress and secretory pathways in engineered and wild-type CHO cell hosts to identify expression bottlenecks.
- Support cell line engineering studies to improve protein production, folding, and secretion.
- Collaborate with proteomics and cross-functional teams to evaluate and validate novel cell engineering targets.
- Conduct laboratory experiments using aseptic cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
- Perform experimental characterization using Western blot analysis, RT-qPCR, digital PCR, and flow cytometry.
- Analyze and interpret experimental results using analytical and statistical methods.
- Participate in experimental design discussions and technical problem-solving.
- Communicate findings and participate in meetings with internal and external collaborators.
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and technical documentation.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least your freshman year at an accredited university.
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemical or Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Previous hands-on experience with aseptic cell culture.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, now or in the future.
- No conflicting summer internship or other employment commitments.
- Preferred: Experience with Western blot, RT-qPCR, digital PCR, or flow cytometry.
- Preferred: Familiarity with CHO cells, cell line engineering, or biopharmaceutical research.
Location & details#
- Location: Spring House, Pennsylvania.
- Term: Six months, typically January to June 2027.
- Modality: Full-time (40 hours per week), fully on-site.
