About the role#
Jimcor Agencies offers a summer internship program for college students to gain practical experience in the excess and surplus lines insurance marketplace. This eight-week program focuses on commercial property and casualty underwriting through hands-on work, mentorship, and professional training. You will work alongside experienced professionals to understand how insurance accounts move through the full policy lifecycle.
What you'll do#
- Support new business submissions and the renewal process.
- Organize and index policy documentation.
- Shadow underwriters during risk assessment and quoting.
- Review inspection reports to determine when inspections are required.
- Explore wholesale brokerage operations and binding authority.
- Gain exposure to policy issuance, endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements.
- Research carrier appetites, underwriting guides, and hit lists.
- Participate in sales meetings, carrier discussions, and internal workflow sessions.
- Learn about E&S regulations and stamping requirements.
- Collaborate with underwriting, binding, and operations teams.
- Complete a simulated policy lifecycle exercise covering binding through cancellation.
- Work directly with an assigned mentor or underwriting manager.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate coursework.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable work habits.
- Ability to demonstrate analytical thinking, initiative, and professional judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Coursework or demonstrated interest in property and casualty insurance or the E&S marketplace is preferred.
- Membership in Gamma Iota Sigma or a similar risk management organization is a plus.
