About the role#
This is a 12-week paid, full-time summer internship based in Wilmington, Ohio. You will gain hands-on experience in texture measurement and characterization while working on 3D scanning and performance analysis of polymer products. This role focuses on developing practical technical skills through direct collaboration with experienced professionals.
What you'll do#
- Scan physical textures using laser profilometers, 3D laser scanners, and optical profilers.
- Manage equipment procedures and keep scan files organized and traceable.
- Process digital texture files to prepare them for detailed analysis.
- Evaluate product data against performance criteria, specifically scratch and mar resistance.
- Identify texture attributes that influence performance to help define an operating window.
- Track your project progress through weekly updates.
- Document your testing approach, data analysis, and key findings in a final written report.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program for Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- An anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Availability to work full-time for 12 weeks during the summer of 2027.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
- An aptitude for hands-on work, innovation, and test method development.
- Experience or interest in metrology, digital imaging, and 3D file processing.
- Basic Python coding skills and a basic understanding of 3D printing and 3D scanning.
- Proficiency with small hand tools and equipment assembly.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and technical communication skills.
