About the role#
This internship is part of the Intellectual Property team at Ocean Tomo, a division of J.S. Held. We are looking for an entrepreneurial person to join us for the Summer 2027 term. This role involves more than traditional intern duties and requires a strategic thinker who can handle a variety of tasks related to valuation and management.
What you'll do#
- Build complex financial models and conduct financial analyses.
- Research specific companies, industries, and technologies.
- Draft reports, pitch books, client presentations, and memoranda.
- Evaluate patent portfolios for salability and assist with intellectual property landscape analysis.
- Engage contacts at target companies.
- Interact directly with management teams and clients.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of an undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or a hard or computer science.
- Strong financial modeling skills and an advanced understanding of valuation methodologies and financial statements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail and organizational ability.
- Professionalism, flexibility, and a self-starting attitude with a sense of ownership.
- Relevant work experience in fields such as investment banking, M&A, private equity, or corporate finance is preferred.
- Must possess work authorization that does not require sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Chicago, Illinois.
- The role follows a hybrid work model, requiring you to be in the office 2-3 days per week.
