About the role#
The Culinary Extern works directly with the chefs and culinary team at The Resort at Pelican Hill. This role involves assisting with daily meal preparation and ensuring the kitchen is fully prepared for service. Externs are expected to maintain professional standards and support the culinary team in delivering high-quality service.
What you'll do#
- Check food supplies, including meats, sauces, spices, and produce, to ensure adequate inventory for each shift.
- Set up cooking stations by gathering necessary equipment and materials.
- Assist with the preparation and plating of food items accurately and efficiently.
- Follow all sanitation and health department guidelines, including proper food handling and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Breakdown stations, label and store food items, and secure equipment at the end of shifts.
- Report any maintenance needs, safety hazards, or accidents to management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a certified culinary school pursuing a degree or certification.
- Valid health department certifications required for kitchen work.
- Knowledge of meat, seafood, and poultry preparation methods.
- Experience using standard kitchen equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work professionally with staff.
