About the role#
IMEG is hiring an Architectural Lighting Intern for a full-time, 10-12 week program during Summer 2027. Based in Chicago, this paid internship provides hands-on experience working on real projects alongside experienced designers. You will contribute to the analysis, design, and implementation of lighting systems across sectors like hospitality, mixed use, and education.
What you'll do#
- Assist with design tasks related to discipline systems.
- Research equipment and support luminaire selections, lighting layouts, and illuminance targets.
- Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions.
- Coordinate activities with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and technology teams.
- Create client presentations and document selections using Revit or AutoCAD.
- Review project documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare addendum information and conduct periodic job site observations.
- Maintain client relations, design notebooks, and project records while working within budget constraints.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Architectural Engineering, Theatrical Lighting Design, Interior Design, or an equivalent field.
- A strong interest in architectural lighting design consulting.
- Previous exposure to CAD or BIM software.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Prior internship experience in building design consulting is preferred.
