About the role#
IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern for a 10-12 week program in Summer 2027. Based in Fairfax, Virginia, this full-time, on-site role involves working with experienced consultants on structural systems for commercial, institutional, and mission critical building projects. You will gain hands-on experience by contributing to project delivery and supporting sustainable design goals.
What you'll do#
- Assist with structural design tasks based on project codes and company standards.
- Coordinate design schedules with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and technology teams.
- Document design decisions, meeting notes, and client instructions.
- Review project documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and issue addendum information.
- Research project resources and maintain design notebooks.
- Assist with client relations and documentation for permanent record files.
- Conduct periodic job site observations as required by contract agreements.
What you'll need#
- Completed at least 2 years of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or an equivalent program.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Skills in AutoCAD or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
- Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written formats with individuals and groups.
- A strong interest in design consulting.
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry is preferred.
