About the role#
The Legal Department Summer Clerk Program at Illinois Farm Bureau provides law students with hands-on experience in an in-house legal department. You will work alongside attorneys and business partners on substantive legal matters. This role offers insight into the considerations that inform business decisions while allowing you to contribute to solutions that support the organization’s strategic objectives.
What you'll do#
- Handle matters related to commercial transactions, regulatory and compliance issues, employment, corporate governance, and complex litigation.
- Develop practical legal skills through direct collaboration with legal and business professionals.
- Participate in corporate projects, meetings, and networking opportunities.
- Team up with fellow interns to present your ideas.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABA-accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program.
- Completion of your first or second year of law school (1L or 2L) prior to the start date.
- Demonstrated academic achievement.
- Strong skills in legal research, writing, and analysis.
- Ability to communicate effectively with legal and business professionals.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Interest in corporate law, insurance, financial services, litigation, or regulatory compliance is preferred.
