About the role#
The Texas Farm Bureau is hiring a Legislative Legal Intern to support our Government Affairs team in Austin during the 2027 Regular Session of the Texas Legislature. This role offers hands-on experience with the legislative process, legal research, and policy analysis. You will work directly with our staff to advance initiatives that support Texas agriculture and rural communities.
What you'll do#
- Research proposed legislation, regulatory matters, and issues affecting agriculture.
- Track, review, and analyze bills throughout the legislative process.
- Prepare bill summaries, policy analyses, and briefing materials for staff and leadership.
- Draft legislative correspondence, member communications, and content for the weekly Austin Newsletter.
- Monitor committee hearings, legislative meetings, and other Capitol proceedings.
- Assist in developing legislative strategy by preparing testimony, presentations, and advocacy materials.
- Draft legislative amendments, bill language, and legal memoranda.
- Collaborate with legislators, staff, stakeholders, and industry leaders.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current 2L or 3L law student.
- You must be available to work on-site in Austin, Texas, from January 12, 2027, through May 31, 2027.
- Knowledge of production agriculture and rural issues is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle time-sensitive tasks.
- A willingness to learn and grow your professional skills.
- Interest in public policy areas like property rights, water policy, environmental regulations, and administrative law is preferred.
- Ability to maintain excellent punctuality and attendance.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Austin, Texas.
- The term runs during the Winter 2027 session.
- This position requires the use of office equipment and may involve occasional travel or irregular work hours.
- You may need to lift or move items weighing up to 30 lbs.
