About the role#
IBM is hiring Software Developer Interns for a Summer 2027 start. This is a full-time, paid internship based in Markham, Ontario. You will work alongside experienced developers to design, build, and test software that powers cloud, AI, and hybrid-platform solutions. This role requires a commitment of 12 to 16 months.
What you'll do#
- Support the design, development, testing, and debugging of software across front-end, back-end, or full-stack environments.
- Work with various programming languages, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, C++, Go, Rust, Swift, or Kotlin.
- Build user interfaces or contribute to back-end services and APIs.
- Use Git and other version-control tools for collaboration.
- Work with cloud and container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and technical discussions.
- Explore emerging technologies including AI, machine learning, and automation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering program.
- Coursework or project experience in software development.
- Familiarity with fundamental concepts like data structures, basic algorithms, and debugging.
- Exposure to front-end or back-end technologies, REST APIs, and databases.
- Experience using Git or similar version control tools.
- Interest in cloud computing, containers, and modern deployment practices.
- Experience with cloud services and exposure to CI/CD pipelines or automation tools.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate and learn quickly in a team environment.
- Understanding of Agile development methods.
- Personal or open-source projects that demonstrate initiative.
