About the role#
IBM Software is hiring a Designer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on enterprise software experiences by creating intuitive, accessible, and visually cohesive designs. You will join a team of designers, researchers, developers, and product managers to move ideas through the full design lifecycle, from initial concepts to final product experiences.
What you'll do#
- Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma.
- Contribute to UI components, icons, and layouts that align with the Carbon Design System.
- Document reusable design components and interaction patterns.
- Collaborate with UX researchers to gather insights and validate your designs.
- Apply accessibility standards and design system guidelines to your work.
- Participate in design critiques, ideation sessions, and Design Thinking workshops.
- Present your design concepts and rationale to cross-functional stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- A portfolio that demonstrates design thinking, UI/UX fundamentals, and visual design skills.
- Experience with design tools such as Figma or Illustrator.
- An understanding of user-centered design, accessibility, and responsive design.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- An openness to feedback and a desire to learn.
- Familiarity with design systems, including patterns and components.
- Interest in AI tools for design, such as Figma Make or Figma Agent.
- Experience with motion design tools like Figma Motion, After Effects, or Lottie.
- Exposure to HTML/CSS or front-end development.
- Interest in product metrics like engagement and retention.
- Current enrollment in a Graphic Design or Industrial Design program.
