About the role#
Howmet Aerospace is seeking a Materials Engineer Intern for our Research and Development Center in Whitehall, Michigan. This full-time internship takes place during the summer of 2027. You will work alongside engineers and scientists to provide materials and process support for our production facilities globally. The program lasts 10 to 14 weeks and includes hands-on training, plant tours, and networking events. At the end of the term, you will present your project findings to plant managers and mentors.
What you'll do#
- Conduct, document, and present evaluations regarding material characterization, anomaly characterization, failure analysis, and data analytics.
- Support material characterization laboratories by assisting with testing anomalies and qualifying new equipment.
- Collaborate with technical teams across Howmet Aerospace sites to identify and resolve material problems.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- Completion of at least sophomore-level coursework by May 2027.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Preferred: Enrollment in Materials Science, Metallurgical, or Ceramic engineering programs.
- Preferred: Strong verbal and written communication skills and analytical abilities.
- Preferred: Ability to work independently or within a team.
- Relevant internship, work, or research experience is a plus.
