About the role#
This position is open exclusively to current or former HNTB interns. As a Field Engineer I, you will support construction projects by monitoring work to ensure it meets project plans, specifications, and local regulations. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027 that requires on-site attendance. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
What you'll do#
- Provide engineering inspection and documentation of construction work.
- Coordinate and schedule quality control inspections.
- Observe on-site material testing and coordinate monitoring services.
- Perform mathematical calculations for material quantity payments.
- Review contractor daily construction reports for accuracy and consistency.
- Read and interpret construction drawings to identify discrepancies.
- Assist with office engineering tasks, including meeting minutes and tracking logs for submittals or pay estimates.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Ability to write daily inspection reports and track work performed.
- Basic understanding of shop drawing review.
- Ability to read and interpret contractor CPM schedules at a basic level.
- Familiarity with identifying conflicts within project documents.
