About the role#
This position is open exclusively to current or former HNTB interns. As a Field Engineer I, you will provide engineering inspection and documentation for construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, contract provisions, and local regulations. This is a full-time, on-site role.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction field work tasks to ensure conformance to project documents.
- Coordinate and schedule quality control inspections and observe on-site material testing.
- Perform mathematical calculations for material quantity payments.
- Review contractor daily reports for accuracy and document project progress through photos, videos, and as-built mark-ups.
- Interpret construction drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies or conflicts.
- Consult with the Resident Engineer on work progress and assist in resolving construction problems.
- Perform office engineering tasks, including preparing meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and maintaining tracking logs for submittals and pay estimates.
- Utilize industry technology, such as GPS and rovers, to increase inspection efficiency.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Ability to write daily inspection reports and track work performed.
- Basic understanding of shop drawing reviews and the ability to interpret contractor CPM schedules.
- Familiarity with using inspection checklists to evaluate work quality.
- Preference for candidates with an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or experience with digital construction management software.
