About the role#
This position is open exclusively to current or former HNTB interns. As a Field Engineer I in the Central Division, you will provide engineering inspection and documentation of construction work to ensure projects comply with plans, specifications, and local regulations. This is a full-time, on-site role supporting large-scale infrastructure projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field work tasks to ensure conformance to contract documents and specifications.
- Coordinate and schedule quality control inspections.
- Observe on-site material testing and perform mathematical calculations for material quantity payments.
- Review contractor daily reports for accuracy and document project progress through photos and video.
- Interpret construction drawings to identify discrepancies or conflicts.
- Consult with the Resident Engineer to resolve construction issues and recommend solutions.
- Perform office engineering tasks, including preparing meeting minutes and maintaining tracking logs for submittals and pay estimates.
- Utilize technology, such as GPS and rovers, to increase the efficiency of inspection tasks.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Ability to write daily inspection reports and track work performed.
- Familiarity with inspection checklists and the shop drawing review process.
- Ability to read and interpret contractor CPM schedules at a basic level.
- Preferred: Engineer in Training (EIT) certification and experience with digital construction management software.
