About the role#
HNTB is seeking a Community Engagement and Planning Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Boston. This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship. You will work under supervision to support departments across community engagement, environmental planning, and transportation planning. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to infrastructure projects while gaining experience in a professional engineering environment.
What you'll do#
- Assist project team members with various support tasks.
- Conduct basic research and data collection.
- Maintain records, collections, and files for specific projects.
- Develop graphics, presentation materials, and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a related undergraduate or graduate program.
- Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure.
- Ability to work well in a team setting.
- Willingness to perform in-person or field work.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Training or experience with GIS mapping and data analysis.
- Understanding of planning and engineering principles.
- Problem solving and analytical skills.

- Compensation: The approximate pay range for this position in Massachusetts is $25.28 to $37.92 per hour.
