About the role#
Hitachi Rail is hiring an intern for the Quality Control team for the Summer 2027 term. This role is based in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina. You will work alongside the Quality team to maintain product and process standards. This position offers hands-on experience with quality systems, manufacturing processes, and data analysis while working with cross-functional teams.
What you'll do#
- Perform quality inspections on incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods.
- Collect and analyze quality performance data to identify trends and report key metrics.
- Support investigations into quality issues and customer complaints.
- Maintain quality records and documentation following company procedures.
- Assist with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities.
- Use tools like 5 Why, Fishbone Diagrams, and Pareto Analysis to support root cause analysis.
- Participate in internal audits and process reviews.
- Monitor supplier quality performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on efficiency and waste reduction.
- Support compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at a 4-year university, majoring in Quality Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Detail-oriented approach with problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) is preferred.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma concepts.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and quality tools.
- Experience with systems like Power BI, Minitab, or SAP.

- Physical requirements: Ability to work in office and manufacturing settings, with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and use of personal protective equipment.
