About the role#
Hitachi Rail is hiring a Network Engineering Intern for the summer of 2027. This full-time, paid position is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You will work on real-world projects related to signaling systems for metros and light rail. This role provides hands-on experience in urban transit infrastructure and network configuration.
What you'll do#
- Support the execution of design, configuration, and testing activities.
- Configure Cisco equipment, including switches, routers, and radios.
- Set up networks and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Perform optimization and testing of radio, network, and fiber components.
- Maintain an open action items list and produce project reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 4-year university engineering program, specifically Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Broad knowledge of switching and routing protocols, wireless communications, and networking or radio technologies.
- Ability to use technical test equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical information.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Fluency in English.
