About the role#
This 16-month internship provides exposure to engineering development processes with a focus on Product Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) compliance. You will work to ensure that parts and components meet global environmental requirements and that these standards are clearly communicated across technical documentation. This role involves collaboration with internal teams, including Hardware Design and Procurement, as well as external suppliers.
What you'll do#
- Standardize requirements for environmental and performance compliance with stakeholders.
- Streamline information transfer to contract manufacturers.
- Engage with suppliers to collect compliance documentation and verify material standards.
- Maintain the list of approved and disqualified surface treatments for mechanical parts.
- Assist the Product HSE/ECO Design Manager in analyzing materials against environmental regulations.
- Generate reports identifying product compliance status and areas of non-compliance.
- Support environmental lifecycle analysis.
- Document processes and provide mentorship to incoming interns.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Engineering degree program (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Material Science, Chemical, Mechatronic, Engineering Science, or Engineering Physics).
- Completion of the third year of your undergraduate program.
- Availability for a 16-month co-op term, with at least one semester of coursework remaining after the internship ends.
- Knowledge of mechanical component drawings and electrical/electronic component characteristics.
- Familiarity with materials, chemical compositions, and surface treatment standards like MIL or ASTM.
- Awareness of Product HSE requirements such as RoHS, REACH, TSCA 6(h), and POPs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week.
- Previous internship or co-op experience is considered an asset.

- Location: Toronto, Ontario (Scarborough).
- Term: May 2027 to August 2028.
- Modality: Hybrid (note: the first two weeks require full-time onsite attendance).
- Compensation: $23-$30 CAD hourly.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
