About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the Hire Vets Now SkillBridge program. It is designed for transitioning active-duty military personnel to gain real-world experience during their final 180 days of service. You will train on projects and work alongside a mentor and senior leadership. The goal is to place transitioning military members into roles that align with their current or previous training, with the potential to move into a full-time position at Newport News Shipbuilding.
What you'll do#
- Manage the operational aspects of ongoing projects.
- Act as a liaison between project management, planning, the project team, and line management.
- Review project status and budgets, manage schedules, and prepare status reports.
- Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client goals.
- Create mechanisms to monitor project progress and assist with problem solving.
- Build an understanding of OCC support and submarine fundamentals, including SAP, Microsoft Office, and material tracking.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve problems and meet mission requirements.
- Monitor vendor costs and performance relative to schedules and contracts.
- Develop an understanding of SUBSAFE processes regarding Reentry Certifications.
What you'll need#
- You must be active-duty military within your final 180 days of service.
- Transitioning military candidates may apply within their final 12 months of service.
- Education and experience requirements depend on your specific Program of Instruction.
- Preferred majors include Business Administration or Operations Management.
