About the role#
Newport News Shipbuilding offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience as an Engineering Co-op. Assignments depend on your goals and the needs of the company. You will work within the Submarine, Aircraft Carrier, Nuclear, or Operations divisions. This is a paid, part-time position requiring a commitment of up to 20 hours per week during the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Assist professional engineers and project managers with design and analysis tasks.
- Support various project needs across different divisions.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to accept diverse work assignments.
What you'll need#
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a 4-year college or university.
- Completion of your freshman year.
- Pursuing an engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.
- Ability to physically access various work sites, including those aboard ships.
- Ability to use vertical and inclined ladders and perform limited kneeling, stooping, and standing.
