About the role#
As an Art Director or Graphic Design Intern at Hiebing, you will join our Create team to turn insights into ideas. You will work with copywriters and other art directors to connect brands with people. This role involves contributing to real client projects, ranging from early sketches to final designs. We are looking for someone who explores multiple visual directions and enjoys collaborating to improve the work.
What you'll do#
- Develop creative concepts alongside copywriters and other team members.
- Translate ideas into visuals using typography, layout, imagery, color, and composition.
- Design and refine work across various channels to fit specific brand identities and objectives.
- Present multiple ideas and visual directions through sketches, references, and concept boards.
- Use feedback to strengthen your concepts and execution.
- Explore AI tools for brainstorming and visual exploration while following agency guidance on usage, accuracy, and brand fit.
- Manage your assignments, communicate your progress, and meet deadlines.
What you'll need#
- A portfolio demonstrating your conceptual thinking, design skills, and creative potential.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- A foundation in typography, layout, color, and composition.
- The ability to connect visual choices to an idea, audience, and brand.
- Curiosity about photography, illustration, motion, culture, and creative tools.
- A collaborative approach with an openness to giving and receiving feedback.
- Initiative and a willingness to ask questions when you need direction.
Location & details#
- Locations: Madison, Wisconsin or Austin, Texas. Candidates must be based in these states and able to work from the corresponding office.
- Work Modality: Hybrid. In-office collaboration is expected Monday through Wednesday, with remote flexibility on Thursday and Friday.
- Timing: This is a full-time internship starting in Fall 2026 and continuing through May 2027.
- Compensation: $15 per hour.
- Schedule: 40 hours per week.
- Requirements: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. A portfolio is required for your application.
