About the role#
This internship supports the networking hardware engineering team by focusing on automation and tool development. You will work alongside senior engineers to improve workflow efficiency, standardize layout processes, and develop reusable tools. This role is ideal for a student interested in the intersection of hardware design and software programming.
What you'll do#
- Develop and test SKILL-based automation utilities.
- Modify and enhance existing SKILL scripts for differential pair validation, length matching reports, constraint audits, and design rule automation.
- Create custom Allegro forms and GUI elements using SKILL.
- Build reporting tools for layout metrics and quality checks.
- Document scripting workflows and best practices.
- Integrate Allegro automation with external tools like Python or batch scripts.
- Assist with basic routing, placement tasks, and engineering change orders.
- Run design rule checks and analyze results.
- Observe high-speed routing methodologies for Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR interfaces.
- Gain exposure to stack-up design and impedance control principles.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Coursework in programming, including data structures, scripting, or software fundamentals.
- Familiarity with Cadence Allegro PCB Designer and exposure to SKILL.
- Experience with Python, Tcl, or other scripting languages.
- Participation in student projects related to robotics, FPGA, PCB, or hardware development.
- An analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
- A detail-oriented approach and comfort debugging code and engineering workflows.
- An interest in high-speed networking systems and building utilities that improve team productivity.
