About the role#
The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship provides foundational exposure to medical office operations within a behavioral and mental health setting. This program is designed for individuals seeking to enter the healthcare field or those without prior medical experience. Participants receive hands-on training and mentorship, culminating in a Certificate of Completion upon finishing 600 hours of service. This is a voluntary, unpaid internship.
What you'll do#
Under supervision, you will learn and perform the following tasks:
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Handle professional phone etiquette and patient scheduling.
- Use the MEDENT Electronic Health Record system.
- Maintain patient flow and the waiting area.
- Perform front desk duties including faxing, copying, and filing.
- Learn general medical terminology and the basics of psychiatric services.
- Gain an introduction to insurance billing and coding.
- Apply standards for HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
- Practice professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be a High School graduate.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- You must be able to commit to a consistent schedule.
- You must pass a basic screening, such as a background check.
- You should be motivated to gain healthcare experience for career development.
Location & details#
- Location: Tallahassee, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Flexible, with a minimum of 20 hours per week and 10-hour shifts.
- Program Duration: 3 to 6 months, totaling 600 hours.
- Policy: This position is subject to a drug-free workplace policy, including pre-joining and random drug screenings.
