About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training for those looking to start a career in healthcare. You will gain experience in medical office operations within a mental health clinic. The program lasts 3 to 6 months and requires a total of 600 hours to receive a certificate of completion. This is a voluntary, unpaid position.
What you'll do#
- Manage front desk tasks including faxing, copying, and filing.
- Handle patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Use Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Schedule appointments and manage patient flow in the waiting area.
- Practice professional phone etiquette.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
- Learn medical terminology and the basics of insurance billing and coding.
- Develop an understanding of psychiatric services.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A high school diploma is required.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is necessary.
- You must be able to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week.
- You must pass a background check and a drug screening.
- A strong motivation to gain experience in the healthcare field.
