About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training in medical office operations within a mental health setting. It is a voluntary, unpaid program designed for individuals looking to start a career in healthcare. Participants receive mentorship and a Certificate of Completion after finishing 600 hours of service.
What you'll do#
- Perform front desk tasks including phone etiquette, scheduling, faxing, copying, and filing.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Oversee patient flow and the waiting area.
- Learn to use the MEDENT Electronic Health Record system.
- Gain knowledge of medical terminology, psychiatric services, and basic insurance billing.
- Maintain strict HIPAA compliance, patient privacy, and professional discretion.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- You must commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week, including 10-hour days.
- You must pass a background check and a drug screening.
- A willingness to follow a drug-free workplace policy is required.
