About the role#
As a Patient Office Assistant Intern, you will support the daily operations of our Federally Qualified Health Center in Harlem. This role involves direct patient interaction, administrative support, and clinic coordination. You will gain hands-on experience in a healthcare setting while completing 90 hours of service.
What you'll do#
- Manage patient intake, registration, and scheduling.
- Verify insurance coverage, assess fees, and handle payments.
- Maintain electronic medical records and ensure data accuracy.
- Assist patients with forms, medical coverage questions, and prior authorizations.
- Coordinate with clinical staff through daily huddles and schedule management.
- Handle patient inquiries, complaints, and follow-up communications.
- Support clinic administrative tasks like fax distribution, reporting, and record archiving.
- Promote patient portal enrollment and health resource services.
What you'll need#
- Strong customer service skills and professional communication habits.
- Proficiency with basic computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to perform accurate data entry and handle basic office equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts and percentages.
- Physical ability to lift or move over 50 pounds and maintain a full range of motion, including standing or walking for extended periods.
- A certificate in a healthcare discipline, such as medical office assistant or billing, is preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records, specifically eClinicalWorks or Dentrix, is preferred.
- Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or English/French are a plus.
