    About the role#

    The Research Assistant Intern joins the team at the Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute. This role provides direct support to clinical research projects, data management, and administrative tasks. Interns work alongside Principal Investigators, research coordinators, and clinical staff to assist in the study of proton therapy and cancer treatment outcomes.

    What you'll do#

    • Collect, record, and analyze data from patient medical records and interviews.
    • Enter data into electronic databases and ensure all documentation of lab results and clinical outcomes remains accurate.
    • Assist with patient recruitment, informed consent processes, and follow-up procedures for clinical trials.
    • Support the collection, handling, and storage of clinical data and biospecimens.
    • Track patient progress and help monitor adverse events during studies.
    • Prepare research protocols, study designs, and regulatory documentation.
    • Maintain records to ensure compliance with IRB protocols and regulatory standards.
    • Create reports and summaries of research findings.
    • Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings and preparing research materials for presentations or publications.
    • Attend research meetings and assist in coordinating seminars and conferences.
    • Complete a final presentation at the end of the term covering your projects, skills developed, and overall experience.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a degree program or graduation within the last 12 months from an accredited college, university, or technical institution.
    • Ability to provide unofficial transcripts as proof of good academic standing.
    • Ability to provide a current academic class schedule.
    • A recent resume or cover letter.
    • A copy of your course syllabus if you are seeking academic credit for this internship.

    • This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship located in Hampton, Virginia.
    • The program operates on a rolling basis.
