About the role#
This internship with the Reinsurance Division offers hands-on experience in catastrophe modeling, data engineering, and visualization. You will work alongside experienced analysts on projects that directly support our risk assessment efforts. This is a part-time role for Winter 2027.
What you'll do#
- Use modeling software to evaluate catastrophe risk and identify high-risk regions.
- Update and maintain databases, tables, queries, and processes using SQL.
- Review and maintain data engineering code in Python.
- Consolidate and clean redundant reference tables across multiple databases.
- Build Tableau or Power BI dashboards to visualize wildfire, hurricane, convective storm, and earthquake events.
- Streamline repeatable modeling processes through automation.
- Collaborate with team members to share tools and insights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Excel.
- A willingness to learn SQL, Tableau, Power BI, and Python.
- Strong attention to detail and a curious mindset.
- Effective communication skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- The role is hybrid, requiring on-site attendance four days per week. Core in-office days are Tuesday through Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
