About the role#
As a Project Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience by working directly on a commercial construction project site. You will receive one-on-one training, coaching, and mentoring while tracking your progress against core competencies. This internship is designed to help you build a foundation for a career in the construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with project control and management.
- Ensure safety and quality programs are followed on the site.
- Develop and maintain the critical path project schedule and prepare short-term look-ahead schedules.
- Apply Lean Construction techniques to project workflows.
- Manage project documentation and coordinate approvals with the Owner, Architect, and Engineers.
- Review and understand contract documents, including plans, specifications, and purchase orders.
- Assist with the procurement of equipment and materials while tracking their delivery.
- Evaluate subcontractor and vendor performance.
- Communicate with subcontractors and vendors regarding technical and contractual issues.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in construction management, engineering, or a relevant technical discipline.
- Ability to travel extensively and reside at the project site during the summer.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with a sense of urgency and juggle competing priorities.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with managers, co-workers, and craft employees.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Motivation to succeed and a desire to grow professionally.
