About the role#
As an Event Management Intern at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, you will gain hands-on experience by supporting the planning and execution of weddings, galas, and corporate events. This role runs from May through November 2027 and requires a commitment of 30 to 40 hours per week. You will work directly with the Wedding Service Manager to coordinate client needs and manage event logistics during our busiest season.
What you'll do#
- Plan and detail events, including space requirements, menus, and equipment.
- Prepare contracts, creative proposals, and Banquet Event Orders.
- Coordinate with hotel departments to ensure quality service and resolve customer issues.
- Assist with site visits, client meetings, and the setup of specialty décor for events.
- Develop relationships with local vendors for services like transportation and entertainment.
- Maintain accurate catering information and stay informed on resort procedures.
- Attend bi-weekly intern and committee meetings while completing assigned internship projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at a college or university with the ability to receive academic credit for this internship.
- Prior experience in event management or customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with internet research and database mining.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift at least 35 lbs and work in both office and outdoor environments.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.

- Schedule: Full-time, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
