About the role#
GM Performance Power Units is hiring an ICE Assembly Process Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. You will work on-site in Concord, North Carolina, supporting the assembly team. This role offers hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment while contributing to engineering operations and process improvement projects.
What you'll do#
- Spend time on the manufacturing floor to learn current assembly processes.
- Map processes and create flow charts to document how departments like Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain interact.
- Update and create work instructions and process diagrams.
- Assist with ECN documentation, tracking, and IFS/ERP data entry.
- Identify bottlenecks and help with continuous improvement projects.
- Support the setup, documentation, and organization of Atlas Copco tooling and torque processes.
- Assist with Avantguard Tool configurations and process monitoring.
- Attend cross-functional meetings to track action items and follow-ups.
- Support smaller manufacturing projects as they arise.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Controls & Systems Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in both an office and a manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently on multiple projects.
- Interest in manufacturing, automation, and process improvement.
- Willingness to learn new systems and technologies.
- Basic understanding of engineering drawings is helpful.
- Experience with CAD, Visio, SmartDraw, or ERP systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with Atlas Copco tooling or torque tools is a plus.
