About the role#
As an IndyCar Trackside Engineering Intern, you will support the Chevrolet IndyCar program through data-driven performance analysis and technical problem solving. You will work from the Charlotte Technical Center to turn vehicle, simulation, and race data into engineering insights and recommendations. This role does not require travel.
What you'll do#
- Analyze vehicle performance, telemetry, simulation, and historical race data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare pre-event analyses, engineering reports, setup comparisons, and post-event summaries.
- Develop and maintain analysis tools, dashboards, and repeatable workflows.
- Assist with investigations into vehicle dynamics, tire performance, fuel efficiency, race strategy, and reliability.
- Communicate findings through presentations, written reports, and engineering reviews.
- Collaborate with race engineers, powertrain partners, and internal engineering teams while managing data quality.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace, electrical, or computer engineering, data science, applied mathematics, or physics.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2029.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the summer of 2027.
- Experience with Excel, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis and visualization.
- Coursework or project experience in vehicle dynamics, data acquisition, controls, powertrain, simulation, or race engineering.
- Hands-on experience with engineering projects, laboratory testing, or technical data collection.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
