About the role#
The Real Estate and Facilities Directorate manages new construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects at the Groton shipyard. This team handles maintenance and troubleshooting for shipyard systems, buildings, and docks. As an intern, you will work with a multidisciplinary group of engineers, project managers, and designers to support the shipyard's ongoing growth and development.
What you'll do#
- Support project management and surveillance tasks.
- Perform calculations on structures, fluid systems, and components.
- Review and update drawings and procedures.
- Research relevant codes to support construction and inspection activities.
- Assist with preliminary project development.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor or Masters degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Ocean, or Chemical Engineering.
- Completion of your Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027.
- Proficiency in the MS Office suite, including Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently or in a team.
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
Location & details#
- This position is located in Groton, Connecticut.
- This is an on-site role. You are responsible for your own housing and transportation.
- This is a paid internship for Summer 2027.
